FAQs

Do you have questions about our caregiver services? Let us know! Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions that we get:

What services does Heart of Gold Nursing provide?

Heart of Gold Nursing in the Coachella Valley area offers boutique home care, private duty nursing, and geriatric care management. Our services are personalized to support aging adults with dignity, safety, and compassion — whether it’s help at home, post-operative recovery, or long-term support.

What’s the difference between home care and home health?

Home care provides non-medical support like bathing, meal prep, companionship, and safety supervision. Home care does not require and order and is most often, private pay and not covered by health insurance.  Home health is medical and prescribed by a doctor, such as wound care or physical therapy. This requires an order and covered by insurance.  We specialize in private home care, but partner with home health when needed.

Do you offer 24-hour care?

Yes. We offer 24-hour hourly care.We do not provide live-in caregivers.

 Do you provide live-in caregivers?

In the state of California, true “live-in” care — where a caregiver resides in the home and is available around the clock for a flat daily rate — is heavily regulated and not typically supported under labor laws.

To remain compliant with California labor standards (including required meal breaks, rest periods, and overtime pay), Heart of Gold Nursing does not offer traditional live-in care. Instead, we provide 24-hour hourly care using carefully scheduled shifts to ensure caregivers are alert, rested, and fully available during their assigned hours.

This approach prioritizes both caregiver well-being and client safety — so your loved one always receives high-quality, attentive care without compromise.

Is Heart of Gold Nursing a private pay agency?

Yes. All of our services are private pay. We are not covered by Medicare or Medi-Cal. Some long-term care insurance plans may reimburse for our services — we can assist with that process.

 What is geriatric care management?

Geriatric care management is a professional service that helps families navigate aging. Our nurse care managers coordinate medical care, attend doctor appointments, manage medications, and ensure safety and quality of life at home.

Are your caregivers trained to care for people with dementia or Parkinson’s?

Absolutely. Our caregivers receive ongoing training in dementia, Alzheimer’s care, Parkinson’s, and hospice support. We provide compassionate care that adapts to each stage of the illness.

What are your rates for home care or private nursing?

Rates vary based on the level of care, number of hours, and caregiver qualifications. Please contact us directly for a personalized quote — we’ll guide you through your options with no pressure.

How do I get started with services?

It starts with a free consultation. We’ll meet with you in person, assess your needs, and create a care plan tailored to your goals. Call us at 760-679-3355 or  to schedule.

Why choose Heart of Gold Nursing?

We’re a locally owned, boutique agency that believes care should be personal. We build relationships, not just schedules. Our caregivers are hand-selected, and our care management ensures you’re never alone in the journey.

When is home care helpful?

Home care is helpful when an aging adult needs support with daily living tasks to stay safe and independent at home. It’s often the right choice after a hospital stay, surgery, or when managing chronic conditions like dementia, Parkinson’s, or mobility challenges.

At Heart of Gold Nursing, we tailor homecare or nursing to fit your needs, from companionship and personal care to post-operative recovery and respite for family caregivers.

How much does home care cost?

The cost of home care depends on the level of support needed. At Heart of Gold Nursing, our homecare and nursing services are private pay and customized to each family’s needs.

Give us a call and we will walk you through your options and costs. Some long-term care insurance policies may help cover the cost — and we’re happy to assist with that process.

When should we reach out for home care or nursing support?

You should reach out for home care or nursing support when daily tasks become difficult, safety is a concern, or caregiving is becoming overwhelming for family members. It’s also a good time to call if your loved one is recovering from surgery, has a chronic condition like dementia or Parkinson’s, or needs help managing medications, appointments, or mobility.

At Heart of Gold Nursing, many families tell us they wish they had reached out sooner. It is one of the biggest mistakes we see.  It’s never too early to reach out. An early conversation allows us to create a plan that prevents crisis and gives your loved one the support they deserve — before burnout or injury occurs.

What areas does Heart of Gold Nursing Serve?

The entire Coachella Valley to include, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio and Coachella.

What is a Care Manager?

Consider us as the “hired son or daughter.”  We provide consulting and managing services to older adults or those with disabilities.  We know best practices in chronic diseases and can provide oversight and options to promote the best quality of life as possible. Care management can include functional, financial, and other services in response to a client’s needs.

What is the difference between a caregiver and a Care Manager?

An in-home caregiver or companion will prepare meals, do light housekeeping and keep the person company. A care manager is a professional (nurse, social worker, gerontologist) trained to manage a range of health, functional, emotional, legal and financial issues related to aging. Care managers often train and supervise in-home caregivers to ensure medication compliance, nutrition, safety, and overall health.

What can a non-medical home caregiver do?

Meal preparation, grocery shopping, light housekeeping, laundry, transportation, socialization, assistance with personal hygiene, bathing and dressing, medication reminders, and exercise.

What is a concierge nurse?

A concierge nurse is a Registered Nurse who provides medical care at home. These services are used when a case is more medically complex or when our client prefers a higher level of expertise. Examples of care include IV antibiotic administration, wound care, assessments, urinary catheter insertions and/or management, and assessments.  This service is also used when a client is just discharged from the hospital or skilled care and needs extra medical  attention as they heal at home.
